FAQ

- 1: What is TERA?
TERA is the first true Action MMORPG, providing all of the depth of an MMO with the intensity and gratification of an action game. Players fully control their characters using the game’s dynamic battle system.
Player actions can change the balance of power in a world threatened by dark powers as seven allied races try to work together to protect their lands from marauding monsters, underworld dwellers, and evil scheming gods.- 2: How does TERA differ from other MMORPGS?
TERA’s groundbreaking combat system will set a new standard in MMORPGs, offering all of the depth of an MMO with the intensity and gratification of an action game.
TERA’s innovative action combat system allows players to step into a world where their actions, teamwork, and daring combat expertise - not statistics - give them a chance to become true heroes.
The real-time dynamic battle system gives players more control and constant involvement in the action! No more point-and-click or repetitive cycling through a palette of spells and skills. Rather than locking onto targets automatically, the position of your character and the timing of attacks, blocks, and dodges determine the outcome of each confrontation. As a result, combat is more intuitive, exciting, and realistic.
In TERA, players impact the world directly, dictating the flow of the economy and maneuvering through a dynamic political system. Players are free to choose their alliances and enemies, rather than being locked into a specific faction based on their character’s race. Teamwork matters more than race or class, as players face off against an array of terrifying foes that threaten their world.
TERA will support game controllers at launch, enabling players to take TERA to their living room for a console experience on a media PC, or use the keyboard and mouse at their desktop PC for a more traditional MMO experience.- 3: When will TERA launch?
TERA will be released on Thursday, 3rd of May 2012.

- 11: How will I level up in TERA?
Our goal is to make every action involved in leveling up integrated into the background story and individual player and group/guild goals. Quests are the primary method for gaining experience. The pacing of the game and the leveling-up process is something that is constantly being refined through focus group tests and ongoing beta tests. The production team is working very closely with the development team in Korea to ensure that the game feels natural to Western audiences.

TERA is an open-world sandbox game with certain instanced areas.
- 13: I’ve seen videos of TERA controlled with a gamepad. What’s this about?
TERA’s action-combat gameplay lends itself to gamepad support very well and the plan is to support gamepads right from the initial launch. Everyone is encouraged to try TERA with a gamepad - it just might grow on you!
- 14: What does Westernization mean, exactly? Are you just translating the Korean version?
Westernization means taking the core Korean version of TERA and making it appeal to a more Western - specifically North American and European - audience. Audiences have different expectations of games in different parts of the world, and playing MMOs in Korea is a different kind of experience than playing them in the West. TERA has a team of writers who are fashioning the game’s lore and plot, writing dialogue, and creating quests and story from the ground up. The game that will launch in North America and Europe will have significant differences compared to the Korean version.
