The Political System
TERA’s political system offers you a unique gaming experience and gives you the proper tools to shape the world around you. Are you ready to rule the world? This guide about the political system will tell you all you need to know to get started.
Vanarchs – The VIPs of TERA

There are nineteen provinces in the world of TERA which can come under the jurisdiction of a Vanarch. They have the power to ensure that merchants are well stocked with supplies and are able to show up for work. They can even hire special vendors for their provinces. You don’t fancy being the nice guy from next door? Raise the taxes and make them pay! Whatever you want, the power to do it lies in your hands.
Be prepared!

Before you register for the election you need to prepare your guild for what’s ahead of you all. Your guild has to be at level 3 to be able to register. To upgrade your guild, you and your members should acquire Catharnach awards through guild quests which can be found on each town’s billboard and are marked in blue on your map.
Please also note that the following stipulations apply to all candidates and elected Vanarchs:
- You can only register one candidate per game account.
- Candidates and elected Vanarchs cannot delete their characters during an election or ruling phase.
- Candidates and elected Vanarchs cannot leave or disband their guilds, or delegate their guild master powers to someone else.
- Elected Vanarchs cannot give up their position and have to set their ruling policies during their tenure.
Time to register your candidate

Each guild can register their guild leader as a candidate for the Vanarch elections. To register you have to visit Jorian at the Velika Consul Office or Paulo in the Consul’s Hall of Allemantheia.
In order to apply you need to meet the following requirements:
- Your character needs to be at least level 50
- Your guild must be level 3 and have more than 20 members
- The registration fee is 2,000 gold and 100 Catharnach awards
If you meet all the requirements, it’s now time to register. First you need to choose the continent for which you want to offer your candidacy – South Arun, North Shara or South Shara. Then select the type of candidacy, meaning you can choose between a popular vote system or thrilling guild versus guild fights. After selecting the type, you can set your preferred provinces and add a statement to sway potential voters.
You have a week within which to register. You can find the current state of the political system on your in-game compass. It will tell you in which phase the system currently finds itself.
Let’s get down to business!

The election phase starts directly after the registration period and will last for one week. During this time, the Vanarch candidates should run their political campaigns if they’re going for a popular vote, or fight guild versus guild battles, if this is the type they have chosen.
Popular vote:
If a Vanarch chooses the popular vote system, he should simply acquire as many votes as possible. This can be achieved by helping people out, making promises like lowering taxes, and even by buying votes from the community. It’s totally up to you.
But voting for a candidate also has benefits. To vote for someone you only have to click on the small political system icon on your radar. In the interface that follows, you can choose the continent and see a list of all candidates. You can now go through their statements and vote for the one you like the most. You will be rewarded your vote with a potion via the mail system. You have three votes in total – one for every continent. Please note that you can only vote once per server and you need to have a character that is currently at least level 20.
Guild versus guild:
If a Vanarch chooses the guild versus guild option, the battles will start with the first day of the election phase. The guild now has a whole week to fight the opposing guild and will earn points for each killed member. A killed guild leader will credit you with even more points. At the end of the phase, all points will be summed up and the winner will become Vanarch! Congratulations!
Will you choose the carrot or the stick?

So you’ve finally became Vanarch and all the hard work has paid off. You and your guild just got a fancy new mount for everybody to see! Now it’s time to decide on your policies. Just visit your regional consultant and tell him what you would like to change.
You can choose from a list of various things. Want to hire new tactic and magic instructors? No problem! Your town needs a speciality store? Nothing easier than that! Mmm…how about making your subjects pay for that? Raise taxes! It is totally up to you which kind of Vanarch you want to be! You can either be the Good Samaritan or the cruel dictator. But keep in mind that you’ll always need people by your side supporting you to become a Vanarch again! Your reign will last for two weeks and in week two, the new hopefuls will be able to register again.
Whether you’re an active Vanarch or not will be visible to all the inhabitants of TERA. A map will be shown when you click on the political system button next to your radar. The three most active guilds with the most guild points will be shown with a star rating. Having the best rating will also result in you getting a gift at the end of your reign and who wouldn’t want to get a gift? Potential voters will also see that you could be a great candidate for the next election and they might want to vote for you.
TERA’s unique political system is nothing like anything you’ve never experienced before! Take control and make your dreams come true!
