Free-to-Play: Update and Shop Preview
Since our initial announcement about TERA going F2P in February 2013 we received quite a lot of questions. Today we would like to update you about the upcoming changes and also give you a first preview of the Shop content and what to expect there.
Comparison chart update with more details about Veteran and Club membership
We updated our comparison chart today, so you can find more details about the veteran and club status on this page. If you hover over one entry in the chart with your mouse, you can see a tool tip with additional information.
We also want to further clarify some of the frequently asked questions related to the upcoming F2P switch for TERA.
If you never previously bought the full version of TERA (either Standard or Collector’s Edition) you’ll be converted to a Free User with the F2P Launch. This account status will also be used for players who currently have a trial account.
The second available status is the veteran user account. Everyone who bought the game in the past or will do so in the future will become a veteran user. It doesn’t matter if you have an active subscription or not.
Additionally you can upgrade from either the Free User or Veteran status and add the TERA Club membership.
Preview of the upcoming item shop for TERA
We also received a lot of questions in regard to the upcoming item shop. Today we want to give you a short preview of what to expect. The complete list will be available, once we actually go free-to-play in February 2013.
First of all, you’ll find some boost items in the shop. These can be used to get more experience, more gold and more reputation. You can also get these by becoming a member of the TERA club.
You’ll also be able to buy NPC summon scrolls, with these you can call certain NPCs, which for example can be used to sell items very quickly. These items are also included in the items which club members will receive with their membership.
What else to find in the shop? For example we’ll offer different potions and consumables in general; you’ll also find dyes in the shop from day 1.
With the F2P launch we’ll also include so called premium service items in Europe. In case you want to change your name, your gender, your race or your appearance, you’ll be able to buy a voucher in the shop to do so.
Furthermore, items which change only the look of your character like glasses and masks will be available and we’ll constantly add more of those items. You will also be able to get your hands on the following two mounts:
- Sleipnir
- Night Mare
We also want to talk about the items which you were especially concerned about. This includes the refined Alkahest and Masterwork Alkahest.
You’ll still be able to buy the refined alkahest from the specialty store NPC vendor in the game for gold. The masterwork alkahest will be available as a drop in dungeons. We might add more ways to obtain those items in the game with the f2p launch or later on, but these possible options are still under review. Please note that those items are also tradable, which means you’ll be able to trade with other players or obtain them through the auction house, if you don’t want to spend time in dungeons.
This way you can choose to either invest in-game gold or time in order to acquire items like the Alkahest.
At this stage we’ll also keep the Common Enigmatic Scrolls in the game, so you’ll still be able to buy them from the vendor in-game. Furthermore spellbinds and masterwork alkahests will be available through reward boxes in the game (for example Valkyon Response IV, BG Winner & Loser Boxes, etc.).
Future shop updates
From time to time we’ll also add new items or change items which are available in the shop, so you’ll have the chance to get your hands on new mounts, weapon skins and different vanity items. We might also add further premium services with the first shop update after the F2P launch.
Please note that you’ll be able to see the full list of items, once we actually go F2P in February. The following details are still subject to possible changes before/with or after the F2P launch. We just wanted to give you a glance at the current status and plans that we have. We’ll announce the exact launch date for the F2P conversion in the upcoming weeks.
